The grant has a secondary purpose as well.
The grant has funds to reduce the price of sealants for patients in an effort to decrease the high rate of cavities in local residents. Unlike the dental treatments portion of the grant, patients do not have to be below certain income levels to receive this benefit. The other qualifications still apply (live within Sugar Salem School district and not have dental insurance or medicaid that helps).
The grant pays 1/3 of the cost of a sealant. Dr. Crofoot at Corner Stone Family Dentistry in Sugar City donates 1/3 of the cost. Only 1/3 of the cost remains for the patient to pay. Sealants are mostly placed on children between the ages of 6 and 16.
For the cost of $13, a cavity costing $115 could be avoided.
Again, funds are limited and not all will be able to receive this benefit.
